New Release: FINE™/Turbo und FINE™/Design3D Version 17.1

FINE™/Turbo

The simulation of multi-stage compressors and turbines represents a remarkable challenge for any CFD solver, due to the complexity of the physical phenomena produced by the motion between rotor and stator blades. For years, designers have been relying on steady calculations based on mixing-plane methods: a time-averaged flow field is computed in each blade passage, while the connection between adjacent rows is established by transferring the pitch-wise averaged flow from one row to the next one. This approach has proved to be very popular, thanks to its cost-effectiveness and accurate performances prediction. FINE™/Turbo 17.1 adds a new interface to the already large variety of methods available, for simulations of high-loaded blades, and, more in general, for modeling strong rows interactions. The new rotor-stator interface is based on the work of Giles (1990) and Holmes (2008) and incorporates non-reflecting capabilities as well as flux conservation at the interface.

AutoGrid5™

  • The far-field mesh, created in a z-R effect, can be generated automatically as a single mesh block.
  • A new option is available to automatically adapt the spanwise distribution of grid nodes between different rows, intending to match flow paths at the rotor-stator connections.

FINE™/Design3D

  • A new tool allows the merging of the *.plan files of two separate MINAMO database generations. The output will be one *.plan file ready to be used in the optimization.
  • Design parameters and/or responses of MINAMO database samples can be exported in a *.csv file
