CadenceTECHTALK: LMG Marin Cuts Time and Costs in Ship Design Using FINE™/Marine

LMG Marin is a naval architecture design and engineering office working on commercial ships, such as ferries, tankers, tugs, and catamarans. The role CFD plays in their processes has grown considerably over the years, and it has replaced towing tank tests in most of their designs.

In this webinar, LMG Marin will demonstrate how they use FINE™/Marine at different stages in their design workflow.

Early in the process, when parameters such as CG position, weight, or trim, are not even fully defined yet, they use FINE™/Marine to obtain preliminary estimations of power, fuel consumption, and propeller size. As LMG has extensive experience and internal procedures in place, they can quickly get accurate data for their design cycles.

They also use FINE™/Marine throughout the subsequent steps in the project to check resistance and power requirements when constraints are moving. Self-propulsion using actuator disks decreases costs and time spent in a model test basin and checks assumptions made by the propeller supplier.

Finally, they use FINE™/Marine in Research and Development projects, such as foil development and optimization and seakeeping applications.
