Cadence TECHTALK | Clipped-Voronoi Diagram Meshing for Scale-Resolving Simulations

Date: 8 June
Time: 8:00am PDT | 11:00am EDT | 5:00pm CET

In this webinar, we introduce you to clipped-Voronoi Diagram mesh generation, one of the crucial technologies underpinning Fidelity CharLES, the new wall-modeled large eddy simulation (WMLES) software. This approach for CFD mesh generation was explicitly developed to produce high-quality meshes for scale-resolving simulations like WMLES.

Some key benefits include a globally unique and partition-independent mesh, a highly scalable algorithm for parallel decomposition, self-similar and isotropic element generation, and near-boundary cell length scales decoupled from surface feature length scales.

We will show you how to iterate mesh designs quickly, in a flexible and lightweight manner, and highlight several examples (open benchmark simulations) where these meshes, coupled with CharLES, enabled high-quality WMLES at surprisingly modest mesh sizes.

What you’ll learn:

  • What is a Voronoi diagram?
  • Why is this a good paradigm for CFD mesh generation (particularly scale-resolving simulations)?
  • In what kinds of simulations can you benefit from this meshing technology?

About the Speaker:

Michael Emory – Software Architect – Cadence

Michael Emory is a Software Architect at Cadence and has contributed to developing the CharLES software since 2015. He obtained his PhD at Stanford University, focusing on uncertainty quantification of RANS simulations. He felt drawn to work on a codebase like CharLES by the visualizations scale-resolving simulations could produce. He has contributed significantly to the geometry pre-processing and mesh generation, user interface, data diagnostics, and post-processing within CharLES. He enjoys training new users and finding opportunities to showcase CharLES’ capabilities to those who will listen.

PDH Certificates will be provided to all registrants who attend the full live webinar. Certificates will be sent by email within 48 hours after completion.
